What MMA training at KŌVA includes
Mixed martial arts is the sport where striking and grappling happen in the same round. The MMA class is where KŌVA’s other three programs meet: the hands and head movement from Boxing, the kicks, knees and clinch from Muay Thai, and the takedowns, control and submissions from NoGi Jiu-Jitsu, trained together in small MMA gloves along with the transitions between them. The wall, the takedown, the scramble back to the feet, striking on the ground.
That is why the class has a prerequisite. Putting a complete beginner into an MMA round teaches them very little except how to get hit. Learning each piece first, in a class built for it, is faster and safer.
The pathway into MMA
The MMA membership is for members with at least six months of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and striking experience, and a coach clears you into the class. That rule is not a gate for its own sake. It is the honest minimum needed to make the class useful to you and safe for your partners.
If you are starting from zero, the route is straightforward. Take NoGi Jiu-Jitsu on Monday, Wednesday or Saturday and either Boxing or Muay Thai during the week; All Access covers all of it. Train consistently for six months, tell a coach that MMA is the goal, and they will move you across when your fundamentals are ready. If you arrive with that experience from another gym, book a free first class and Emmanuel will place you.
A typical class
Classes are 60 minutes: Tuesday 8 to 9 PM and Sunday 1 to 2 PM, both coached by Emmanuel. Tuesday’s class follows the 7 PM Muay Thai class and Sunday’s follows the noon Muay Thai class, so All Access members can train both in one visit.
- Warm-up. Movement that mixes both halves of the sport: sprawls, shots, shadowboxing with level changes.
- Technique. A sequence that crosses disciplines. A jab-cross into a double leg, defending a takedown against the wall, standing back up under strikes, passing guard while staying safe from punches.
- Drilling. The sequence with a partner, cooperative first, then with resistance the coach sets.
- Situational rounds. Short rounds from a fixed starting point: one partner pinned against the wall, one on top in guard with gloves on. You solve the problem, then swap.
- Conditioning. Rounds on the bags or pads with wrestling mixed in, because MMA fitness is different from anything else.
Sparring
Friday 8 to 9 PM is all-levels MMA sparring, following the 7 PM Muay Thai sparring class. It is for members a coach has cleared, and it is controlled: the intensity is set by the coach, partners are matched, and the point is to apply what you drilled during the week under pressure. Sparring is never mandatory. Members who train MMA for the challenge and never step into a Friday round are just as welcome on Tuesday and Sunday.
Gear
Athletic clothes and a mouthguard. KŌVA has loaner gloves and shin guards while you get your own MMA gloves and shin guards.
Pricing

Women’s MMA is its own membership: three women-only classes (Boxing Thursday 5 PM, BJJ Saturday 3 PM and Muay Thai Sunday 3 PM) coached by Nina in a women-only room, with no experience required.
