Frequently asked questions
Everything people ask before their first visit: what a first class costs and what happens in it, how memberships work, kids and women's classes, what to bring, hours and parking. Can't find your answer? Contact us or text (214) 702-1287.
I've never trained before. Is that okay?
Yes. Most of our members started with no experience. Fundamentals classes are built for complete beginners, and coaches walk you through every technique step by step.
What happens in my first class?
You check in at the desk, meet your coach, warm up with the group, learn two or three techniques, and drill them with a partner. Adult classes run 60 to 90 minutes. Nobody spars in a first class.
How much is the first class?
Your first class is free, one class in any adult or women's program, with gloves and gear provided. No card, no contract, no obligation. Book it online and show up.
What should I bring?
Comfortable athletic clothing, a water bottle, and yourself. We have loaner gloves and shin guards for striking classes, and NoGi Jiu-Jitsu needs no uniform.
Do I need to be in shape first?
No. Training is how you get in shape. Classes scale to you; you work at your own pace and progress from there.
Do you have classes for kids?
Yes. Kids BJJ and Kids Muay Thai run for ages 5 to 12 on weekday evenings, focused on discipline, confidence and safe technique.
Is martial arts safe for a 5-year-old?
Kids classes are technique and games first. There is no striking to the head and no sparring for beginners; coaches control every partner drill. Every kids coach is a KŌVA coach who also teaches adults.
Do you offer women-only classes?
Yes. Women's Boxing on Thursday, Women's BJJ on Saturday and Women's Muay Thai on Sunday, in a women-only room, taught by a female coach. It is a full martial-arts program, not a cardio class.
Will I be filmed or photographed?
No. We do not film or photograph members in the women's program. Content for the program features the coach only.
How do memberships work?
Memberships are month to month with unlimited classes in your program. All Access covers every adult program, and there are single-program, women-only and kids memberships. You can sign up online in a couple of minutes.
What does a membership cost?
Every membership is month to month with unlimited classes in your program and no long-term contract. Book your free first class and a coach will go through the options with you, or text (214) 702-1287 and we will talk it through.
Is there a contract?
No long-term contract. Memberships renew monthly and you can cancel with notice through the member portal.
Can a beginner join the MMA class?
The MMA class is for members with at least six months of BJJ and striking. Beginners start in Boxing, Muay Thai or Jiu-Jitsu and move into MMA when a coach clears them.
What is NoGi Jiu-Jitsu?
Jiu-Jitsu trained in shorts and a rash guard instead of the kimono. Grips are on the body, not the cloth, so it is faster and transfers directly to MMA. KŌVA trains NoGi only.
Where are you located?
1055 S Sherman St, Suite 104, Richardson, TX 75081, in the Spring Valley Business Center two doors from Royal Roastery. Free parking in the lot in front.
Where do I park?
